Gaza War: Morocco supports ICJ’s call on Israel to urgently ensure protection of Palestinians, deliver humanitarian aid to victims

Morocco backs the ruling of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) calling on Israel to take immediate provisional measures to ensure the protection of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and guarantee sufficient and unhindered flow of humanitarian aid to the victims, a source at the Moroccan Foreign Ministry said.

The ICJ’s ruling is in line with what King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, has repeatedly stressed about the need to take practical and urgent measures to ensure the protection of the Palestinians and put an end to the unparalleled aggression in the Gaza Strip and the resulting dangerous deterioration of the humanitarian situation there, added the same source.

The same source recalled the principled position of the Kingdom which supports the fairness of the Palestinian Cause, rejects the targeting of civilians by any party, and is committed to the legitimate right of the Palestinian people to the establishment of their Independent State with East-Al-Quds as its capital, within the framework of the internationally agreed two-state solution, serving the aspirations of the people of the region and the international community for a secure future for the entire region in peace and stability.

The Hague-based International Court of Justice delivered its decision against Israel on Friday, January 26, 2024. The ICJ, the highest court of the United Nations, deemed the risk of genocide by the Israeli army plausible in the Gaza Strip. Joan Donoghue, the president of the UN judicial body, stated, “at least some acts appear to fall under the scope of the genocide convention,” ordering Israel to “prevent and punish” incitement to genocide.
