Burkina Faso upgrades military equipment with powerful missiles
Ibrahim Traore, Burkina Faso’s transitional leader, has announced that the West African country reeling with terror activities has acquired more powerful missiles and other military equipment to help in the fight against terror groups.
“We have acquired much more powerful missiles. This is what has been experienced in Djibo. Some are 2, 3, 5, 10 times more powerful, and others keep coming. During the year, a lot of equipment will arrive. The firepower will increase considerably,” he said.
The equipment planned to be deployed this year, the leader noted, is the result of a strict management of resources and prove that the country is “capable of waging war.”
The Transitional leader who came to power two years ago in a coup did not provide information on the suppliers or the countries providing the military hardware.
Burkina Faso under Ibrahim has turned to Russia, Turkey, and North Korea for defense cooperation at the expense of former colonial power France.
The country has been since 2015 confronting activities by jihadists after a series of terrorist attacks.
