Re-elected President of Madagascar vows to further strengthen friendship & cooperation relations with Morocco

The re-elected President of Madagascar, Andry Rajoelina, has vowed his readiness to further strengthen the relations of sincere friendship and cooperation biding his country to Morocco.

The Malagasy head of state made the remarks while receiving Saturday at the Presidential Palace the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi El Alami, who represented King Mohammed VI at Rajoelina’s official inauguration ceremony, which took place the same day in Antananarivo.

El Alami conveyed the greetings and congratulations of King Mohammed VI to Andry Rajoelina on his re-election and the confidence placed in him by the Malagasy people.

President Rajoelina expressed gratitude and thanks to the Sovereign for financing and building a hospital and training center in Antsirabe. He also announced that his country will shortly be opening an embassy in Morocco.

During the meeting, when the issue of Morocco’s territorial integrity was raised, Rajoelina reaffirmed that Madagascar has always stood and will continue to stand by Morocco, a brotherly and friendly country, and that relations between Antananarivo and Rabat are fraternal, historic and honest.

The audience was an opportunity for both parties to highlighted the historic and distinguished relations binding the two countries and to stress the importance of consolidating ties, through air transport and investments. In this connection, they underlined the need to create communication networks between investors, to make known the two countries’ capacities and potential, and to exchange expertise and experience, particularly in the agricultural sector.

King Mohammed VI had sent the Malagasy President a congratulatory message on his re-election in which he expressed his “firm determination to maintain this common approach with a view to expanding areas of bilateral cooperation, in the service of our two peoples and our African continent.”

President Andry Rajoelina was re-elected in the first round of the presidential elections held on November 16, winning 59% of the vote.
