Tunisia: Q3 unemployment rate shots up to 15.8 per cent

As many as 638.100 Tunisians were jobless during the third quarter of the year (Q3), accounting for 15.8 per cent of the active population, the country’s statistical Agency announced Wednesday.

The 15.8 per cent translates a rise in the unemployment. 15.6 per cent of the active population in Q2 was unemployed, the agency notes. The data also show that women are mostly affected, with 21.7 per cent increase in comparison to the Q2 (21.1 per cent). It was the same trend for men as well.

Unemployment among men is also on the increase by 13.4 per cent against 13.2 per cent recorded in Q2.

Unemployment among youth aged between 15 and 24 is equally on the rise. The agency put the rate to 39.1 per cent as opposed to 37.8 recorded in during Q2.

The data show that unemployment among graduate went up to 24.6 per cent during Q3 compared to 23.7 during Q2.

During Q3, the North African country counted 4.03 million active Tunisians.
