Senegal: Macky Sall unveils Kédougou airport

Senegal’s President Macky Sall inaugurated Wednesday November 15 Kedougou airport, in South-East of the country, as part of his economic tour in the build-up to his exit from power.

The airport had been rehabilitated and saw the upgrade of the security. Seydou Bâ, CEO of regional airports told media that the airport is now fully fenced (5,000m).

“The runway had deteriorated. It used to be 1,800 meters long, but now it is 2,000 meters. It’s a runway that can accommodate certain types of aircraft”, he added.

The ceremony is part of Sall’s national economic tour that he kick-started Monday November 13. The Senegalese leader reportedly boarded a military jet from Kedougou airport and headed to Kaolack region for the second leg of his tour.

The tour to take him to four regions will wind up on November 18. It aims at spurring the development of the remote regions of the country.

The tour is likely the last by the Senegalese President who announced to the Army this month his exit from power as his second term in office ends in February 2024.
