Tunisia: Most prominent terrorist in prison break captured

Ahmed Melki aka Al Somali (The Somalian), the most prominent of the five terrorists who escaped from prison on November 1 in the Tunisian town of Mornaguia, has been arrested by residents of a district in the Tunisian capital, Tunis.

Melki had reportedly been active in several terror groups and received military trainings.

Melki was arrested Sunday November 5 by residents of Intilaka district in Tunis. The man was condemned in 2017 to 24 years in prison for terrorism incidents that occurred in the coastal town of Raoued in 2014. Security forces had then killed seven other terrorists in a counter operation to curb terrorist activities in the town, Business News reports.

Melki’s prison mates, Nader Ghanmi, Alaeddine Ghazouani, Ameur Belâzi and Raed Touati, also indicted for terrorism, are still on the run since November 1st.
