London-based Tullow Oil’s operations in Gabon unaffected – CEO

Rahul Dhir, Chief Executive Officer of London-based Tullow Oil has told on September 13 Bloomberg the military coup that took place late August in Gabon has not affected the company’s business operations.

Tullow Oil Plc’s assets in the central African nation Gabon account for around a quarter of its crude production.

Tullow Oil Plc produced about 12,800 barrels a day of oil from non-operated assets in the central African country, Bloomberg reports. “Everything has been business as usual, there’s been a number of cargo liftings,” Dhir told the agency in an interview.

“We’ve obviously watched carefully, but it’s been fine,” he added.

A group of soldiers led by Gen Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, head of the powerful presidential guards, deposed on August 30 President Ali Bongo Odimba who led the country since 2009 following the death of his father Omar Bongo.

The coup came after the country’s independent Electoral body declared Bongo winner of August 26 elections. The junta said the elections were rigged. Nguema was made leader of the Transition and took oath on September 04.
