Morocco launches pre-qualification tender for Noor Midelt III solar plant

Morocco announced a tender for the development of Noor Midelt III, a 400MW solar plant part of a complex that is designed to be the largest in the world.

Once completed the Noor Midelt project would have 1600 MW installed capacity, conducive to Morocco’s goals to generate 52% of its electricity from renewable sources.

Morocco has already given 800 MW Noor Midelt I to a consortium led by France’s EDF and UAE’s Masdar.

Six Companies were picked as part of a prequalification tender for the 400MW Noor Midelt II. These include Morocco’s Nareva, an offshoot of Al Mada investment fund, which is in the same consortium led by Belgium’s International Power.

Another Moroccan company Gaia is teaming up with Spain’s Eberdrola in a bid that also includes three other consortiums spearheaded by Spain’s Cobra Servicios Communicaciones y Energia, EDF renouvelables of France, Enel Green Power of Italy and Acwa Power of Saudi Arabia.
