Guinea: Morocco‘s Autonomy Plan, the “ONLY Credible and Realistic” Solution to Sahara Issue

Guinea has reaffirmed its unwavering support for Morocco’s autonomy plan offered for the Sahara under its sovereignty, saying the plan is the “only credible and realistic solution” to the Sahara regional conflict.

In a joint statement issued Monday following the 7th meeting of the Moroccan-Guinean Cooperation Commission convened in Dakhla, Guinea’s Foreign minister Morissanda Kouyaté commended the UN-led efforts for achieving a realistic, practical and lasting solution to the Sahara dispute.

He also recalled the opening by his country of a Consulate in the Saharan Moroccan city of Dakhla in 2020, a move which confirms this West African country’s backing to the Kingdom’s territorial integrity.

The meeting of Moroccan-Guinea Cooperation Commission showed the two countries firm determination to strengthen further economic cooperation and build a model of inter-African partnership.

In the joint statement, Guinea’s FM and Moroccan peer Nasser Bourita lauded the win-win cooperation ties set between the two countries and the huge partnership opportunities offered in training, agriculture, food security, sea fishing, hydraulics, health, energy, port management and mining.

Bourita expressed the Kingdom’s readiness to contribute to socio-economic development efforts in Guinea, particularly in priority sectors such as security, fisheries, health, social development, agriculture, vocational training, water and energy.

The two ministers voiced the willingness of Rabat and Conakry to develop Public-Private Partnership (PPP) and hailed the excellent ties of friendship and solidarity existing between the two countries.

They also agreed to support Moroccan and Guinean bids in regional and international organizations. Morocco’s top diplomat thanked on this occasion Guinea for its supportive stand for the Kingdom’s territorial integrity at regional and international fora.

Conakry will host the next meeting of the Moroccan-Guinean Joint Cooperation Commission
