Morocco and Portugal discuss security cooperation to counter terror threats and transnational crime
Ways of strengthening Moroccan-Portuguese security cooperation to counter terrorism and cross-border organized crime were at center of talks held Wednesday & Thursday in Portugal between Abdellatif Hammouchi, Director-General of national police & domestic intelligence agency and top Portuguese intelligence officials.
During this working visit, Hammouchi was accompanied by a large security delegation. He met with Heads of several intelligence bodies including Secretary General of Portuguese Republic Information System (SIRP) Mira Graça Gomes, Chief of Security Intelligence Service (SIS) Adélio Neiva da Cruz and Director General of the Defense Strategic Intelligence Service (SIED) Carlos López Pérez.
Talks covered regional and international security situation and the various dangers and threats facing both shores of the Mediterranean with the surge of terrorist activity in this region, said a press release issued by the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance (DGST).
The visit shows the two countries’ willingness to bolster security cooperation and enhance intelligence coordination to counter shared threats.
