Sahara: Arab Journalists Union Reaffirms Backing to Morocco’s Autonomy Plan and Territorial Integrity
The Union of Arab Journalists has reaffirmed strong support for Morocco’s autonomy plan offered the Sahara under its sovereignty and reiterated its steadfast backing for the Kingdom’s territorial integrity against plots of division and separatism.
In a statement released following its meeting held June 17-18 in Baghdad, the Union said the Moroccan Autonomy Plan offers the appropriate and realistic political solution to the Sahara regional conflict.
The Union warned against the serious threats posed by the escalation of conflicts and armed clashes in certain Arab countries, calling for the immediate end of fighting in Sudan and for the opening of dialogue for the settlement of disputes.
The Union of Arab journalists also condemned the continuing Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories and crimes committed against Palestinian people.
The Union highlighted the major issues and challenges facing the Arab press, saying that Arab print media is suffering from an unprecedented crisis that threatens its future with the advance of alternative media.
