Côte d’Ivoire hikes by 10 per cent energy price

The administration of President Alassane Ouattara announced Thursday a 10 percent hike in energy price from July 1st this year in a move to mitigate exploitation loss in the sector at $124 million.

Mamadou Sangafowa Coulibaly, Minister of Mines, Petroleum and Energy, indicated that the increase in the price concerns users of 15 A (15 ampere meter).

The minister also announced a 15 percent hike for users connected to high voltage and average voltage.

The decision does not apply to 5A and 10A clients that make up 89 per cent of electricity users in the West african country. Coulibaly stressed that exploitation loss amounts to $124 million. He also argued that the hike will help “move on to new investments, improve product quality, ensure the rehabilitation and periodic major overhauls of State-owned generating units, satisfy numerous requests for network extensions and connections, and electrify all the country’s localities by 2025”.
