U.S donates Cameroon 11,000 tons of food to address food insecurity
The US aid agency, USAID, donated Thursday to Cameroon 11,000 tons of food to help address food insecurity affecting 4.7 million people.
Philippe Accilien, the USAID/Country Representative for USAID/Cameroon, took delivery of the shipment from Douala Port and handed it to the World Food Program (WFP) and Cameroonian authorities.
“We thank the United States Government for continuing to support the World Food Program in its fight against food insecurity through this donation of 11,000 tons of food products to Cameroon”, appreciated WFP representative in Cameroon, Wanja Kaaria.
“Right now in Cameroon, 10% of the population are facing food insecurity. With the Ministry of Agriculture, we have identified 3 million food-insecure people. This donation will be distributed to households affected by food insecurity in the Far North region, with internally displaced persons and Nigerian refugees, in the North West, South West and East regions, with Central African refugees”, W. Kaaria explained.
WFP says 4.7 million people are in need of food assistance in Cameroon, adding that it is calling for $407 million to meet this assistance.
