Benin unveils plans to host 2027 Francophonie Games

Benin is candidate to host 2027 Francophonie Games, the country’s General Secretary of the French-language global organization local Commission has announced. Paulin Dohon Agbetokpanhoum made the announcement late last week, adding that the country’s President Patrice Talon gave instructions so that the Commission submits a bid.

The deadline to submit the bids is September 30. Only Armenia has so far made public its offer to host the games, “24H Au Benin” reports.

The West African country, under leadership of President Talon, has significantly improves its sports infrastructure.

Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), will host from July 28 to August 06 this year, the IX Games of the Francophonie. The sport event will bring together the best young artistic and sporting talents of the organization. 32 countries are expected to participate, with a total 1,500 participants aged between 18 and 35.

The Congolese capital was chosen as host in July 2019 during an extraordinary session.

The first edition of the games took place in Rabat and Casablanca (both in Morocco, 1989). Other cities that previously hosted the sport event include Paris (France, 1994), Antananarivo (Madagascar, 1997), Ottawa and Hull (both in Canada, 2000), Niamey (Niger, 2005), Beirut (Lebanon, 2009), Nice (France, 2013) and Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire, 2017).
