DR Congo declares 10-day curfew in Binku to curtail insecurity

Authorities in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have declared a ten-day curfew in the town on Binku, Maniema province, near capital Kinshasa, to tackle insecurity after the death of nine people killed in an attack.
Afani Idrissa Mangala, governor of the province made the announcement indicating that curfew will go from 8pm to 6am the following day. The decision came after a Sunday attack during which unidentified armed men carried out a pre-dawn attack on the village of Yosso, “killing nine people, including two children.
Five people were seriously hurt and the southern part of the village was completely burned down, AFP reports.
The province has reportedly been a theater of conflict between the Teke, who consider themselves the historic settlers of a swathe of around 200 kilometers (120 miles) of land on the bank of the Congo River, and the Yaka, who the Teke say arrived after them.
The curfew also came on the back of a confrontation between youth of 3z district and security forces. Three youth were shot dead while a top army commander sustained serious injuries.
