DRC to host Female Handball 2028 AFCON
The Democratic Republic of Congo will host in 2028 the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) of female handball at the request of the African handball governing body CAHB.
Amos Mbayo, chair of the Congolese handball federation (FEHAND), indicated that his organization cannot turn down the request.
“The DRC did not bid for the organization of this CAN 2028. It is rather the CAHB which chose our country given its performance. FEHAND could only accept this outstretched hand,” Mbayo said.
“We have always been used to performing at other venues that are better equipped in terms of infrastructure. Now we will have the advantages of playing at home. We have faith in it insofar as nowadays, the advent of our gymnasiums which grow here and there, will be the realization of an old dream. With God’s help, we are going to organize this great competition at home. Something which will be a national pride for all Congolese athletes,” he added.
Senegal hosted the last tournament of the confederation last year with Angola winning the trophy.
The Southern African country won its fourth title in a row and the 15th time in history. DR Congo won the bronze medal game beating host country Senegal.
