President Alassane Outtara names Chief Justice of Constitutional Council

Cote d’Ivoire’s President Alassane Outtara appointed the country’s first ever female Chief Justice, Chantal Nanaba Camara.
A statement from the office of the African leader indicated that the appointment will come into force on July 21. Camara is taking over from Koné Mamadou who had been in the position since 2015.
The 69-year old woman is an iconic figure in the Ivorian legal system and has held several key positions.
Prior to her appointment, she was made President of the Judicial Chamber of the Supreme Court, in 2011.
She was appointed in April 2019, President of the Court of Cassation, the highest court of the judicial system in Côte d’Ivoire.
The statement also indicated that the President will later appoint three advisors in replacement of three whose mandates will expire on July 26.
