Botswana hikes 2022 economic growth forecast to 6.7% in review

Botswana’s government has revised upwards its 2022 economic growth forecast to 6.7% from an earlier estimate of 4.2 per cent, the country’s Finance Minister Peggy Serame said on Monday according to Reuters.
Serame, who was speaking during an annual budget speech, argued that the 2022 revision was linked to the diamond-rich southern african country’s strong recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, after economic growth of 11.8% in 2021.
During the same speech, the Minister also forecasted an economic growth this year of 4 per cent while targeting medium-term growth of 5.7 per cent.
She also indicated that the government plans to ramp up infrastructure investment to “unlock constraints to economic growth”.
