Morocco captures fugitive wanted in UK
A 42-year-old man, wanted in the United Kingdom for a murder committed in Essex, has been arrested by Moroccan police. The announcement was made Wednesday by UK National Crime Agency (NCA).
Nana Oppong was among 13 fugitives named in a National Crime Agency most wanted campaign last year.
Nana Oppong was wanted by UK authorities for killing Robert Powell, 50, who was shot eight times in Water Lane, Roydon, Harlow, in 2020.
The nabbed fugitive was among 13 fugitives named in a National Crime Agency most wanted campaign last year. A worldwide alert was issued for Oppong and he was arrested using false identity documents as he tried to enter Morocco from Spain.
Steve Reynolds, NCA regional manager in Spain, said: “Oppong’s arrest came about after a sustained campaign to trace him and because of the vigilance of our Moroccan partners and support from Interpol”.
The arrest of Oppong shows the key role Morocco plays in combating transnational crimes and the importance of its security services in preserving regional and international peace.
