Mali: Choguel Kokalla Maïga resumes office as PM of Transition after sick leave

Colonel Assimi Goïta, leader of the transition in Mali, reinstated Sunday Choguel Kokalla Maïga as interim Prime Minister of the transition after the latter bowed out of the position owing to sickness in August.

Goïta announced in a decree the end of the role of Colonel Abdoulaye Maiga, appointed as caretaker Prime Minister after Choguel Maïga was prescribed by his physician a rest after 14 months of work without pause.

Rumors swirled around that the 64-year-old man suffered a stroke on July 10.
Choguel Maïga however made his first public appearance on November 25. He met with President Goita and told media that his conditions had improved.

While he was away, Col. Assimi Goita appointed Col. Abdoulaye Maïga as the Caretaker Prime Minister.

The Sunday decree indicated Abdoulaye is appointed as Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralization and government spokesperson.
