Moldova mulls plans to set up embassy in Egypt

Moldova is considering establishing an embassy in Egypt over the coming period as part of efforts to strengthen ties with the Arab country, the Deputy PM and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the European country has revealed.

Nico Popescu made the announcement Tuesday as he met with Egypt’s Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouli.

The two officials discussed bilateral cooperation in a number of fields, including increasing agricultural exports to the North African, mainly wheat, Madbouli’s office said in a statement.

According to the Moldovan official, the Embassy would most likely be established in the diplomatic district in the New Administrative Capital (NAC).

He also expressed his country’s wish to sign a free trade agreement with Egypt.

The two officials oversaw the signing of several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) on the sideline of the Egyptian-Moldovan Business Forum that explored opportunities to encourage trade exchange and investments between the two countries.
