Ukraine’s top diplomat in Senegal to bolster ties
Dmytro Kuleba, Ukraine Foreign Minister arrived in Senegal Monday for a two-day visit to bolster ties with the Western African country amid ongoing crisis with neighboring Russia.
“We will review our cooperation and discuss President Macky Sall’s commitment on behalf of the African Union [AU] to the return of peace in his country and its sub-region,” Senegal’s top diplomat Aissata Tall Sall said in a Facebook statement.
President Sall is also expected to receive Kuleba. The trip is taking place amid the months-long ongoing conflict with Russia. Like most African countries, Senegal, which is also chairing the AU, has chosen to abstain and not to choose sides in the conflict.
Sall met with Russian President Vladmir Putin in June in view of presenting the AU’s initiative to help defuse the crisis that has had a negative effect on the world including the African continent.
Ukraine’s leader Volodymyr Zelensky also later had a video conference with African leaders.
