Morocco receives Covax vaccine shipment
Morocco has received a new batch of AstraZeneca vaccine made in South Korea under the vaccine sharing program Covax, health ministry said, without disclosing the number of jabs received.
Reports, however, last month cited the reception by Morocco of 1.2 million doses under this program to which Morocco was the first country to sign in.
The new shipment is vital to maintain the vaccination momentum in the country which so far has vaccinated most people in Africa.
By Thursday, more than 4.34 million people have received the first dose and 4.07 million people the second dose as the number of cases has surpassed the threshold of 0.5 million infections.
Morocco is also expecting 10 million Sinopharm doses from China in April and May, the parliament said in a statement.
The North African kingdom has also ordered 1 million of Russia’s Sputnik vaccine.
The surge of new virus strains has pushed the government to maintain a night curfew during Ramadan which will start on April 13 and to extend the health emergency for another month starting April 10.
