First batch of Chinese vaccine arrives in Morocco

Morocco received the first batch of China’s Sinopharm vaccine as it plans to vaccinate 25 million people, Moroccan media reported.

Moroccan health minister Khaled Ait Taleb had said that Morocco ordered 65 million doses, 25 million from the UK’s AstraZeneca and 40 from Sinopharm.

King Mohammed VI had given directives for the campaign to start as soon as possible for the vaccine to be delivered for free to all Moroccans.

Simulations and preparations were completed for the vaccination campaign which will also include mobile units to administer the vaccine in hard-to-reach areas.

Total coronavirus infections in Morocco surged to 445,439 on January 5, including 7581 deaths and 416,708 recoveries.

Two weeks ago, Morocco imposed a curfew starting 21:00 and restrictive measures such a shutdown of shops and restaurants at 20:00 across the country.
