Morocco, Switzerland submit report on strengthening UN Human Rights Treaty Bodies
Permanent Representative of Morocco to the UN, Omar Hilale, and the Ambassador of Switzerland, Pascale Baeriswyl, have submitted to the UN General Assembly’s President Tijjani Muhammad-Bande the report on their co-facilitation of the process of strengthening the Human Rights Treaty Bodies.
In the report covering letter, the two diplomats stressed that they echoed all the views expressed during the consultation process they conducted, both in New York and in Geneva. In this context, they noted that the principles of inclusiveness and transparency marked this process.
In their conclusions and recommendations, they indicated that a follow-up process is necessary to achieve the objective of strengthening and improving the functioning of the human rights treaty body system.
The report was submitted following the closing meeting of this process held last Friday, and during which the two diplomats presented the broad lines of the document.
During this meeting, the President of the General Assembly praised how Morocco and Switzerland have managed this process, lauding the two ambassadors for their efforts and the transparency and inclusiveness that characterized the process. All speakers in this meeting commended the leadership and commitment of Morocco and Switzerland during this process.
