Moroccan honorary consul in Casablanca under investigation for firearms possession

Moroccan security forces in Casablanca have launched a probe against a Moroccan who is honorary consul of a foreign country after they discovered arms in his residence.

The National Security General Director (DGSN) said in a statement its forces, upon receiving intelligence, combed the 52-year old man’s house in the city of Casablanca.

The forces according to the directorate seized three pistols and parts of a hunting rifle as well as hunting cartridges.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the pistols belonged to the man’s father who had served in the army and that the honorary consul has the necessary legal licenses to possess the hunting rifle whose parts were seized.

The man, according to the DGSN, will be handed over to the judiciary pending the results of technical expertise to determine the firearms’ origin and the reasons for their possession.

Private acquisition and possession of guns are banned in Morocco except for hunting firearms.
