Air Algérie Crippled by Surprise Strike
Algeria’s flagship carrier, Air Algérie, was crippled by a surprise strike of its employees causing a major disruption of air traffic at Algiers and Setif airports.
At least 13 international and domestic flights have been canceled as a result of the strike, which further adds to a reputation of unreliability that has been plaguing the company for years.
Air Algérie saw its plans for regional expansion destroyed at the rock of inefficient leadership as it continues to titter on the edge of bankruptcy.
The government promised to inject 2 billion dollars to help the company pay its debt and acquire new aircrafts.
Skytrax certified the Algerian airline with only 3 stars leaving much to be desired in terms of connectivity and onboard service.
Algeria’s flag-carrier currently deploys 58 passenger planes: 25 Boeing 737-800s, two 737-700C convertibles, five 737-600s, three 767-300s, 12 ATR 72-500s, three ATR 72-600s and eight A330-200s.
