UNIDO Chief Commends Morocco for Inclusive Industrial Growth
UNIDO Director General, LI Yong, has lauded the progress and the efforts made by Morocco to promote inclusive and sustainable industrial development.
Speaking during signing ceremony of partnership program held lately in Rabat with Moulay Hafid Elalamy, Morocco’s minister of industry, investment, trade & digital economy, Mr. Li praised the North African country for its industrial vision through its Industrial Acceleration Plan 2014-2021. The plan underlines the importance of public investment to guide industrial transformation and calls for a more dynamic manufacturing sector in the country.
“UNIDO believes that the Kingdom has a unique window of opportunity to create high and inclusive growth. We will endeavor to support the acceleration of an inclusive and sustainable industrial development that contributes to the Kingdom’s drive for increasing competitiveness”, said Chief of the UN agency.
Morocco and UNIDO have been working closely together to develop a comprehensive partnership program to unleash Morocco’s industrial potential, underlined Mr.Li.
This program focuses on industrial zones, agro-industry, energy efficiency, the circular economy, e-commerce, South-South & triangular industrial cooperation and multi-stakeholder partnerships.
For his part, Moulay Hafid Elalamy stressed the importance of the Morocco-UNIDO partnership program, developed in close consultation and coordination with various ministerial departments, the private sector and all stakeholders.
The implementation of this program will support Morocco’s national strategies, particularly in the fields of agriculture, energy, environment and vocational training, he added.
During his visit to Morocco, the UNIDO chief met several senior officials including Head of Govt Saad Eddine El Othmani and minister of foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita.
