Morocco Busts Terrorist cell recruiting members for IS

Morocco’s counter terrorism agency (BCIJ) dismantled a four-member terrorist cell loyal to IS that was operating in the cities of Fez, Casablanca, Kenitra and Midar.

The arrested individuals engaged in propaganda and recruitment for IS and plotted to carry out terrorist acts in Morocco, a statement of the Interior Ministry said.

They were arrested in possession of electronic devices, military uniforms and terrorism apologetic books, it said.

The investigations show that they maintained contact with IS leaders to manufacture explosives with a view to carry out suicide attacks targeting vital sites in Moroccan cities.

Al Ahdath newspaper learnt from a security source that the cell was aiming to undermine Morocco’s security by attacking tourist attractions in Casablanca and Marrakech.

This is the second cell busted in a week, following the dismantling of a five-member terrorist cell in a joint operation by Moroccan and Spanish security services.
