Morocco has gained the support of another European country for its territorial integrity and sovereignty over its Sahara ahead of the upcoming UN Security Council meeting planned on Sahara by end of October.
During his trip paid Friday to Copenhagen, Moroccan foreign minister Nasser Bourita has secured the backing of his Danish peer Lars Løkke Rasmussen to the Autonomy Plan offered by Morocco under its sovereignty for a lasting resolution of the Sahara regional conflict.
In a press statement following his talks with Moroccan top diplomat, Mr. Lars Løkke has described the Moroccan Autonomy plan as a “credible” proposal that it “brings in a serious and essential contribution to the ongoing UN process,” saying the Moroccan plan is a “good basis for reaching a mutually agreed solution by all parties.”
He also said his country stands firmly behind the European Union’s position which welcomes the adoption by UNSC of Resolution 2797, endorsing the Autonomy plan under Moroccan sovereignty.
Denmark is currently serving as a non-permanent member of the UNSC, which is expected to take in October pivotal decisions on the Sahara and MINURSO.
