The Sudanese Army says it has regained full control of the strategic Export road linking Khartoum to North Kordofan after two days of intense fighting with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
In a statement on Sunday, July 26, the Army said its troops captured the areas of Um Qurfa and Jarigakh, inflicting heavy casualties on RSF fighters and forcing them to retreat. Military commanders also confirmed that forces advancing from El Obeid linked up with allied troops from Raheed Al-Nuba in Jabrat Al-Sheikh, consolidating control of the route.
The 350-kilometre highway had been largely under RSF control since the conflict began in April 2023, serving as a key supply corridor. The army said recapturing the road strengthens the defence of El Obeid, reconnects North Kordofan with Omdurman by land, and bolsters security west of the Sudanese capital.
