President of the European Investment Bank (EIB) Group, Nadia Calviño, will pay an official visit to Morocco from June 29 to July 1, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen the strategic partnership between the European financial institution and the Kingdom.
During the visit, Calviño will hold talks with several members of the Moroccan cabinet and meet with representatives of the diplomatic and financial communities, and will announce the signing of two major EU-backed financing operations aimed at strengthening the safety and resilience of transport networks while accelerating their adaptation to climate change, the EIB said in a statement.
Marking 20 years of the EIB’s presence in Morocco and nearly 50 years of partnership with the Kingdom, Calviño will take part in a high-level discussion with Minister of Economy and Finance.
The exchange will review the achievements of the longstanding partnership and explore practical ways to enhance the EIB’s impact as the financial arm of the European Union (EU).
Calviño will also visit a public school in Rabat to attend a musical performance by a group of young artists as part of the “Morocco 88” project. The visit reflects the EIB’s tangible commitment to education and youth, a key pillar of its partnership with Morocco.
“I am delighted to pay an official visit to the Kingdom of Morocco, with which the European Investment Bank has developed a benchmark strategic partnership,” Calviño was quoted as saying in the statement on the eve of her departure.
“This visit marks renewed momentum in EU-Morocco relations, in which the European Investment Bank plays a central role. As the European Union’s investment arm, the EIB is stepping up high-impact initiatives that benefit citizens and businesses in Morocco. I look forward to meeting our partners in the country and seeing firsthand the impact of our projects on the ground,” she added.
The EIB is one of Morocco’s leading institutional lenders, having mobilized more than €12 billion since it began operations in the Kingdom to finance projects in key sectors, including small and medium-sized enterprises, renewable energy, education, sustainable transport, healthcare, as well as water and sanitation.
