Norway’s Jotun to invest in Morocco paints plant

Norwegian paint maker Jotun plans to invest around 100 million dirhams ($10 million) in a new manufacturing plant in Morocco’s Casablanca-Settat region, the industry ministry said.

The project follows the signing of a memorandum of understanding last week between Industry and Trade Minister Ryad Mezzour and Jotun Morocco, a local subsidiary of the Scandinavian group.

The facility will produce paints and coatings and is expected to generate about 60 direct jobs by 2030, according to the ministry.

Moroccan authorities said the investment would help strengthen local industrial integration, particularly in the chemical and petrochemical sectors, while supporting the development of a domestic supplier base.

Jotun Morocco, established in 2010, has expanded its activities in recent years to include the production, storage and distribution of decorative, marine and protective coatings.

The parent company, headquartered in Norway, is one of the world’s leading coatings manufacturers, operating about 40 factories globally and employing nearly 11,000 people.

The investment adds to a series of foreign industrial projects in Morocco, which has positioned itself as a manufacturing base serving European and African markets.
