Polisario Smara Attacks Draw Growing International Condemnation

The terror rocket attacks launched by the Algeria-backed Polisario armed militias against the Moroccan Saharan city of Smara have sparked condemnation from the United States, the United Nations, MINURSO, the European Union, and several Arab States.

After the United States and the United Nations, France, the United Kingdom, Spain, Belgium, Czech republic, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates have all denounced in the strongest terms the criminal and reckless aggression claimed by the Polisario in blatant violations of UN Security Council resolution 2797 which urges all parties to avoid any act that jeopardizes the ongoing political process.

On May 05, the Polisario mercenaries fired three Iran-made rockets on Smara, injuring one woman. These heinous attacks are desperate attempts by the Polisario and their backers to derail the US-UN led peace process to end the 50-year-old regional conflict in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2797 endorsing Autonomy plan under Moroccan Sovereignty.

The international community has stood up against these unprovoked and unjustified attacks, saying they are inconsistent with the spirit of recent talks on the Sahara, undermine efforts towards peace and threaten regional stability.

The international community has also reaffirmed backing to the Autonomy plan under Morocco’s sovereignty, telling the Polisario Front and all those resisting peace that the Sahara issue has lasted too long and that the status quo cannot continue and serves no one’s interest!
