Mauritania: Armed Forces Deny Reports of Cross-Border Fighter Movements

Mauritania’s armed forces have rejected claims circulating in some digital media alleging cross-border movements of fighters, describing the claims as false and misleading.

In a statement issued on May 3, the General Staff said the reports form part of a disinformation campaign intended to create confusion and undermine the credibility of the military. It stressed that Mauritania retains full and sovereign control over its national territory, particularly along its borders.

The military further indicated that its forces remain on maximum alert, fully mobilized to conduct surveillance, ensure security and defend territorial integrity. Authorities also cautioned the public against spreading unverified information and urged greater responsibility in handling security-related matters.
