Washington Sends Senior State Department Official to Algeria & Morocco to Discuss Regional Security Amid UN Talks on Sahara

U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau plans travel to Algeria and Morocco April 27 – May 1 to discuss regional stability and partnership between the United States and North Africa.
Landau’s diplomatic tour was announced Friday by U.S. State Department. It coincides with UN Security Council meetings on the Sahara and the MINURSO in line with UNSC Resolution 2797 which endorsed Morocco’s Autonomy plan in the Sahara under the Kingdom’s sovereignty.
In Algeria, the Deputy Secretary will meet with Algerian officials to discuss the deepening bilateral relationship, including shared efforts to address regional security issues and impactful commercial deals with U.S. companies, said a statement issued by the State Department.
In Morocco, the U.S. Official will engage with government officials and business leaders on the advancement of technological and space coordination and the longstanding security cooperation relationship.
Washington says this trip underscores U.S. commitment to supporting regional stability and expanding economic and strategic partnerships across North Africa.
