Gabon Reaffirms Support for Morocco’s Sovereignty over Sahara & Commitment to Advance Strategic Partnership

Gabon’s Foreign minister Marie-Edith Tassyla-Ye-Doumbeneny has reaffirmed her country’s steadfast backing to the Moroccanness of the Sahara and hailed the historic UNSC 2797 endorsing the Autonomy plan under the Kingdom’s sovereignty.

The supportive stand was expressed by Gabonese top diplomat during a meeting held Tuesday in Rabat with Moroccan peer Nasser Bourita.

In their joint press release, the two officials lauded the excellent ties of cooperation binding the two countries and the friendship between the two Heads of State, King Mohammed VI and Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema.

They agreed to strengthen cooperation in agriculture, agribusiness, infrastructure, digitization and artificial intelligence, stressing the importance of the private sector in economic partnership between the two countries.

The two ministers also voiced shared commitment to advance Morocco-Gabon strategic partnership on the basis of solidarity, mutual trust and shared prosperity.

During the meeting, the Gabonese official expressed her country’s full support for the initiatives launched by the King for the emergence and development of the African continent and commended the momentum generated within the framework of the Process of the Atlantic African States (PAAS) and the Royal Initiative to facilitate access to the Atlantic Ocean for Sahel countries.

In this connection, the two officials welcomed the momentum generated within the framework of the Process of the Atlantic African States to transform the African Atlantic region into a geostrategic framework offering significant opportunities for synergy in strategic areas such as the environment, food security, health, energy, logistics interconnectivity, resource pooling, the exchange of experiences, which can serve as a zone of shared development and stability.

They further welcomed the royal initiative to facilitate access of Sahel countries to the Atlantic Ocean and underscored the strategic importance of this Initiative, which forms part of Morocco’s active solidarity with its African brother nations.

Tassyla-Ye-Doumbeneny praised in this context the Leadership and commendable contribution of the Monarch to the international Community’s efforts to promote peace, stability, and development in Africa.
