UK Warns Against Travelling to Algeria following Blida Suicide bombings

Despite the Algerian regime’s silence and cover-up attempts, the British Foreign Office has issued a travel warning for Algeria following the two suicide bombings that rocked on Monday Algerian city of Blida as Pope Leo XIV started a visit to the country.

“British nationals in the area should remain vigilant at all times and follow the advice of the local security authorities”, said the Foreign Office. Press reports say at least two police officers were killed and several civilians were injured in the two suicide bombings which sparked a widespread panic across Algeria.

The first explosion reportedly targeted the security directorate in the centre of Blida city, followed by a second suicide bombing near a food industry company in the same province.

The British authorities advise against all travel to within 30km of Algeria’s borders with Libya, Mauritania, Mali, Niger and Tunisia – in the provinces of Illizi and Ouargla and in the Chaambi mountains area.

The Foreign Office advises against all but essential travel to within 30km of the rest of Algeria’s border with Tunisia.
