Sudanese Army secures Mabsut, expanding control in South Kordofan
The Sudanese army recaptured the town of Mabsut in South Kordofan on December 2, following clashes with forces allied to the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), according to media reports.
The Army’s advance, west of Al-Abbasiya Tagali, also involved confrontations with the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N). With Mabsut under its control, the army now holds all areas west of Al-Abbasiya Tagali, a strategically significant locality that links northern and southern South Kordofan and governs key routes affecting troop movements and civilian transit. Army personnel shared videos on social media confirming the takeover, though no official statements were made by the army or SPLM-N.
Earlier on 30 November, the Army had secured multiple areas west of Al-Abbasiya Tagali after engagements with the RSF. Currently, the RSF controls all five states of Darfur, while the army maintains authority over the remaining 13, including the capital, Khartoum. The ongoing conflict, which erupted in April 2023, has resulted in at least 40,000 deaths and displaced 12 million people, according to the World Health Organization.
