Nador West Med Port to be ready by 2026- minister

Morocco’s Nador West Med port is entering its final phase and is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2026, equipment minister Nizar baraka said.

“Construction is complete. We are now moving into the operational phase with leading international partners,” Baraka told members of Parliament, confirming agreements with major global players, including French shipping giant CMA CGM.

These partnerships will enable the port to handle up to three million containers annually, positioning Nador West Med among the most significant logistics hubs in the Mediterranean.

Modeled on the success of Tanger Med, Nador West Med is designed as a transshipment and transit port capable of accommodating the world’s largest vessels.

Its facilities include a container terminal, a petroleum terminal, and adjacent industrial zones, reinforcing Morocco’s ambition to become a regional maritime powerhouse.

Beyond its maritime role, the project aims to catalyze economic development across the Oriental region.

Baraka emphasized that benefits should extend beyond Nador and Driouch provinces, saying “our goal is to integrate all surrounding regions into this growth dynamic.”

To achieve this, several infrastructure projects are underway, including a planned highway linking Guercif to Nador and upgrades to key routes connecting Taourirt, Al Hoceïma, Oujda, and Saïdia, he said.

These improvements will expand the port’s economic reach and create new industrial zones across the northeast, he added.
