Morocco: 13 new social centers to support vulnerable communities

King Mohammed VI has authorized the immediate operation of 13 new social centers across Morocco, representing a significant expansion of services for the country’s most vulnerable populations through a $30 million investment.

The Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity constructed these facilities across eight provinces as part of three major programs addressing healthcare access, disability support, and youth employment training. The initiative marks Morocco’s largest single expansion of social services infrastructure in recent years.

Healthcare access received substantial enhancement through new medical facilities, including a proximity medical center in Sale with an $8.55 million budget. This brings the foundation’s operational medical units to six, with plans for twelve centers nationwide. Al Aroui residents gained access to a new $1.11 million dialysis center, complementing the nearby Mohammed VI Hospital.

Disability support services expanded with a new regional branch of the National Mohammed VI Center for the Disabled in Beni Mellal, funded with $3 million. This facility increases the network to nine centers serving people with disabilities throughout Morocco.

Three new addiction treatment centers opened in Chefchaouen, Al Hoceima, and Beni Mellal, costing MAD 6.5 million, MAD 6.5 million, and MAD 4.5 million respectively. These additions raise Morocco’s addiction treatment centers to 18 across 15 cities.

Six vocational training centers launched to prepare disadvantaged youth for employment, emphasizing market-driven skills across various sectors. Major investments include a metal welding center in Tit Mellil (MAD 94 million), agricultural trades in Souk Larbaa (MAD 34 million), and electrical training in Casablanca’s Sidi Othman (MAD 32.5 million).

Rural education support expanded with a socio-educational center in Izemmouren, Al Hoceima province, providing schooling and career guidance, The center is worth MAD 3.5 million.
