Football: Postponement of the African Nations Championship to August 2025, Final draw staged

The CAF (Confédération Africaine de Football) announced the postponement of the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship, CHAN 2024, to August 2025.

The exact date in August 2025 of the commencement of the CHAN 2024, to be hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda will be announced «in due course», said CAF.

According to CAF Executive Committee, «good progress has been made in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda with the construction and upgrading of stadiums, training fields, hotels, hospitals and other infrastructure and facilities for the hosting of a successful CHAN. »

CAF Technical and Infrastructure experts, some of whom have been based in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, have advised CAF that more time is required to ensure that the infrastructure and facilities are at the levels, necessary for hosting a successful tournament.

Seizing the occasion of this postponement, the President of CAF Patrice Motsepe expressed his deep gratitude to President William Ruto of Kenya, President Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania and President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda for their leadership, commitment and the good progress that has been made in building and upgrading the stadiums and other facilities in their respective countries to ensure success to the African event.

He assured that he is confident that all the infrastructures and facilities will be at the required CAF standards for hosting, in August 2025, a very successful CHAN Kenya-Tanzania-Uganda 2024.

The Draw for the finals of the CHAN 2024was staged in Nairobi, Kenya on Wednesday, 15 January. It has delivered some exciting encounters for the tournament.

The draw stands as follows:

Group A: Kenya, Morocco, Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia

Group B: Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic

Group C: Uganda, Niger, Guinea, Q2, Q1 (representing the teams that will qualify in the additional tournaments preceding the competition.)

Group D: Defending champion Senegal, Congo, Sudan, Nigeria

Morocco’s Atlas Lions, winners of the 2018 and 2020 editions held in Morocco, will contest the group phase in Nairobi city.
