South Africa yet to find mass shooters of 18 people
South African authorities are still on the manhunt after armed man shot dead 18 people, in the town of Lusikisiki in Eastern Cape province.
The shooting targeted two houses in the same neighborhood, which is a collection of rural homesteads on the outskirts of the town, the police said.
Two days later, still no arrests have been made leaving the Police unable to explain the motives of the mass shooting.
The incident mirrors the rampant criminality in a country that suffers the highest murder rates in the world, according to the latest figures from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.
There were more than 27,000 murders in 2022 – amounting to 45 people per 100,000, out of a population of almost 60 million. By comparison, the US rate is six per 100,000.
