UAE to resume issuing visas to Nigerians
The UAE will resume issuing visas to Nigerian nationals following a ban that was imposed in 2022, after Nigerian authorities prevented Fly Emirates from repatriating funds.
The decision was announced by Nigeria’s information minister Mohammed Idris, who added that the two countries would resume direct flights.
“I can tell you that the agreement has been reached and effective from today, Nigerian passport holders intending to travel to the UAE are able to do so,” Idris said on Tuesday.
In January, the Nigerian central bank released a backlog of 134 million dollars owed to international airlines.
The devaluation of the Nigerian naira against the dollar exacerbated backlogs, and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) continues to urge further action to fully address the issue.
