Moscow Attack: Morocco condemns deadly assault, stands with Russia against terrorism
King Mohammed VI sent a message of condolences and solidarity to Russia’s President, Vladimir Putin, following the terrorist attack that targeted a concert hall in Moscow and that left many people killed or injured, describing the assault as “heinous and reprehensible.”
In this message, the Sovereign expressed Morocco’s strong condemnation of this cowardly and criminal act, and its full solidarity with Russia.
The King voiced his heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathy to President Putin, the grieving families and the Russian people and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
In a press release issued by the Foreign Ministry, the government of Morocco strongly condemned the “terrorist” attack at the popular concert hall complex near Moscow Friday, and voiced its solidarity with the Russian authorities against terrorism and offered condolences to the families of the victims.
ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack that rocked the concert hall in the north-west suburb of Krasnogorsk, killing at least 133 people and wounding more than 100.
According to press reports, gunmen clad in camouflage gear stormed a rock concert at Crocus City with guns and started shooting. The assailants also threw incendiary devices that sparked fire, engulfing the building. The roof of the theatre has partially collapsed.
Video footage from the Crocus City Hall shows the vast complex, which is home to both the music hall and a shopping center, on fire with smoke billowing into the air. The Friday’s assault came less than a week after the re-election of President Vladimir Putin by an overwhelming majority.
The White House said it had warned Russia earlier this month of plans for a potential attack in Moscow targeting large gatherings.
