China dispatches medical team to Benin to provide medical services for locals
China’s Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region has sent a medical team to Benin to provide medical services for locals, state-run news agency Xinhua reports, citing the regional health Commission.
The 22-member medical team will work in the West African country for one-and-a-half year.
Yang Ping, a doctor from the General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University and the leader of the team, said that they will help improve Benin’s health, medical treatment and hygiene levels, and promote exchanges and cooperation in the field of TCM, Traditional Chinese Medicine.
The team is the 27th so far sent by the region to the African country. Previous health workers provided services covering many areas including surgery, orthopedics, internal medicine, pediatrics, gynecology and TCM.
As many as 616 medical personnel were previously sent and provided services to more than 3 million people, the news agency noted. The medical teams from Ningxia last year officially established a TCM department at a local hospital in Benin, and have been pushing forward the development of telemedicine since 2019.
