Morocco/drug trafficking: Nearly 1.5 ton of cocaine seized in Tanger-Med Port, about 363 kg of Cocaine grabbed in El Guergarate
Police at the Tanger-Med port, foiled, on Tuesday, an international drug trafficking operation and seized one ton, 488 kg and 80 grams of cocaine.
This operation was carried out in close coordination with Spanish security services, as part of joint operational cooperation to combat international cocaine trafficking operations and neutralize the dangers and threats posed by cross-border organized crime networks, according to a statement by the National Police (DGSN).
The illicit substance was seized in a container aboard a European-flagged shipping vessel, coming from a port in a South American country and heading to a Turkish port, the statement said.
Meanwhile, the judicial police are conducting an investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, with a view to identifying all the people involved in this criminal network and determining its regional and international ramifications and connections, the statement added.
On Monday, Moroccan police and customs agents foiled an international drug trafficking attempt in El Guergarate border post, south of the town of Dakhla and seized nearly 363 kg of Cocaine.
The large international shipment of hard drugs was coming from abroad was destined for Morocco.
Control and careful search operations led to the discovery of this cargo of hard drugs in the form of 16 bales carefully concealed in the cabin and body of an international goods transport truck registered in Morocco, immediately after arriving at the El Guergarat border post from a sub-Saharan African country, said a statement by the national police (DGSN). The truck driver and his assistant, both Moroccan citizens aged 40 and 41, were arrested.
These security operations are part of the DGSN’s intensive efforts to combat international drug trafficking, particularly the illicit trade in hard drugs and psychotropic substances from outside Morocco.
