Morocco and Spain Intensify Investment Partnership in Biscuit and Industrial Bread Sectors

Economic cooperation between Morocco and Spain continues to deepen in the agri-food industry, with investors from both countries demonstrating strong interest in biscuit manufacturing and industrial bread production. Competition authorities recently disclosed several major concentration operations signaling this growing partnership.

The Moroccan Competition Council announced that Mexican multinational Grupo Bimbo S.A.B. de C.V., through its Spanish subsidiary Bakery Iberian Investments S.L., has acquired 100% of the capital and voting rights of Joy Food International SARL. The Casablanca-based company specializes in producing and distributing packaged industrial bread. This transaction represents Grupo Bimbo’s strategic expansion into Morocco’s promising food manufacturing sector.

A second operation involves Spanish company Adam Foods, S.L.U, a Barcelona-based subsidiary of Ventres UNO S.L, acquiring complete control of Biscoland, Fabrique de Biscuiterie, Confiserie & Chocolaterie SA. The Moroccan firm, headquartered in Bouskoura within Nouaceur province, operates as a Holmarcom subsidiary specializing in food product manufacturing and distribution.

These acquisitions reflect the strengthening of economic relationship between the two countries. Spain remains Morocco’s leading commercial partner, while Morocco holds the distinction of being Spain’s primary commercial partner and top investment destination in Africa.

In early December, over 100 Spanish and Moroccan business leaders convened in Madrid to consolidate their partnership and promote economic development, particularly targeting African and Latin American markets. The entrepreneurial meeting, organized by Spain’s CEOE and Morocco’s CGEM ahead of a high-level bilateral session, featured remarks from CEOE president Antonio Garamendi who emphasized the need to strengthen alliances in strategic sectors.

Moroccan Minister Karim Zidane highlighted the excellent bilateral momentum, noting intensified political exchanges and historic economic milestones. Spanish Agriculture Minister Luis Planas stressed the relationship’s importance for addressing agricultural and fisheries challenges.

The December 4 high-level meeting in Madrid, co-chaired by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and Moroccan Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch, highlighted by the signing of 14 agreements, demonstrating the relationship’s density and diversity.
