Benin’s Jean-Claude Talon elected new President of Africa’s tennis governing body
The Confederation of African Tennis (CAT) elected last week Jean-Claude Talon from Benin as the new President of the continent’s tennis governing body in replacement of Tarak Chérif from Tunisia who had led the organization since 2004.
Jean-Claude Talon, brother of Benin’s President Patrice Talon, is the President of the West African country’s tennis Federation. He also serves as the President’s sports top adviser.
The elections took place during the Confederation’s General Assembly in Nairobi, Kenya, on Friday 27 October. At the second round, Talon landed 25 votes against 12 votes for his challenger Nelson Amanze to become the President of the CAT. The assembly also elected Kenya’s Tennis Secretary Mbugua Karani as the Vice-President.
