Benin has reaffirmed unwavering support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and full sovereignty over its entire Saharan territory, saying the Autonomy Plan offered by the Kingdom for the Sahara is the only realistic solution to this regional conflict.
The supportive stand comes in the joint statement issued following the 7th meeting of the Morocco-Benin Joint cooperation commission, held in Cotonou under co-chairmanship of the two countries’ foreign ministers, Nasser Bourita and Mrs. Descent Corinne Amori Brunet.
The top diplomat of the West African country has lauded the adoption by the UN Security Council of historic Resolution 2797, which endorsed the Autonomy Plan under Moroccan sovereignty as the basis for a just, lasting, and mutually acceptable resolution of the Sahara dispute
She also announced a visit to the city of Dakhla to see the socioeconomic development of this region and explore joint partnership in various sectors of common interests.
Mrs. Amori Brunet has commended royal Sahel initiative and the Atlantic African States Process (AASP) Initiative seeking to transform the region into a geostrategic zone of cooperation and consultation for peace, security, and prosperity.
Morocco and Benin voiced on this occasion strong commitment to build a model south-south cooperation leveraging their huge joint opportunities offered in trade, industry, investment, tourism, agriculture, justice, security, vocational training, higher education, and scientific research, as well as health, digital technology, and culture.
